Big EZ Charters, led by Captain Theron Hoffman, is your go-to choice for Detroit River fishing charters. With years of local know-how, our crew delivers friendly, professional service that helps visitors and lifelong Michiganders alike connect with these productive waters. From Detroit River walleye fishing in early spring to powerful sturgeon fishing later in the season, we provide quality gear, clear instruction, and a can-do attitude that helps first-time anglers build confidence on the river. Because the Michigan walleye fishing window is short, every trip is planned around peak movement patterns, proven jigging techniques, and current river conditions to give you the best chance at success. Captain Theron’s focus on safety and responsible catch-and-release practices helps protect the fishery while giving you great photos and lasting memories. Please contact the guide before booking to confirm availability, timing, and current conditions. Once everything is confirmed, you can book with confidence and enjoy a smooth, well-planned day on the Detroit River.

Captain Theron Hoffman has logged countless hours on the Detroit River, learning its moods, current seams, and seasonal fish patterns long before GPS overlays did the work. A United States Coast Guard–licensed captain and lifelong Michigan angler, he pairs hands-on river knowledge with an easygoing teaching style that helps new and seasoned guests feel at home from the first cast. Guiding, for Captain Theron, is as much about people as it is about fish. He explains why walleye push shallow on a rising barometer, shows the subtle jig cadence that draws a strike, and celebrates every netted catch as if it were his own personal best. Safe practices and resource stewardship sit at the center of every outing, ensuring the Detroit River fishery remains strong for future generations. Those who fish with Captain Theron quickly notice his calm focus. Mechanical issues get solved before they interrupt the day, knot questions turn into mini-lessons, and photo sessions happen without missed bites. Under his leadership, Big EZ Charters has built a reputation for honest expertise, genuine hospitality, and results that keep anglers talking long after the rods are stowed.
The Boat
The Big EZ is a wide-beam, purpose-built fishing platform kept in top mechanical shape and scrubbed clean after every trip. Its spacious deck layout allows several anglers to work jigs or live bait without tangles, while modern electronics—side-scan sonar, GPS trolling motor, and precision anchoring—keep the boat locked on productive lines. Coast Guard-approved safety gear, cushioned seating, and quality rods and reels round out a setup that lets guests focus on the bite, confident that the vessel and equipment are every bit as capable as their captain.
